The Tiger and the Dried Persimmon
0:00
Once upon a time, there was a small village at the foot of a mountain.
In that mountain lived a fearsome tiger.
When the tiger roared loudly, all the villagers trembled.
On a cold winter night, the tiger, having gone several days without eating anything, was extremely hungry.
So, he came down to the village to look for something to eat.
The tiger arrived in front of a house.
At that moment, a baby inside began crying loudly.
The tiger was curious, so he hid under the window and listened.
The baby's mother said,
“Baby, don't cry.
The tiger is coming.”
But the baby continued to cry.
The tiger was startled and thought,
“Oh, the baby isn't scared of the tiger?”
A little later, the mother spoke again:
“Come on, don't cry.
Here's a dried persimmon.”
As soon as the mother gave the baby the dried persimmon, the baby stopped crying immediately.
Greatly surprised, the tiger said to himself,
“So a baby who isn't even scared of a tiger is afraid of a dried persimmon?
A dried persimmon must be scarier than me!”
Thump!
Suddenly, something heavy fell on the tiger's back.
Startled, the tiger shouted,
“The dried persimmon has caught me!”
Actually, it was a thief who had been on the roof.
The thief had secretly climbed up to steal a cow, but because it was dark, he mistook the tiger for a cow and jumped down.
The thief, afraid he would be eaten by the tiger if he fell off, held on tightly to its back.
The tiger ran even faster, trying to shake off whatever was on its back.
At that moment, the thief grabbed a tree branch and barely managed to climb up the tree.
The tiger, feeling the thing on its back disappear, was greatly relieved.
“So, dried persimmons really are terrifying monsters after all!”
Thinking so, the tiger fled deep into the mountains.
